I think I'm a writer

I started this blog one month ago, and now I think I’m a writer. I am laughing about it.

I think, therefore I am. Because I want to be. I’ve always wanted to be. So now I am.

I’ve had a publication rejected. Apparently, that’s a pre-requisite for being a real writer.

I made an A in freshman comp. Too bad I was ridiculed for describing someone’s voice as hot fudge over a sundae. Gag!

I  served on the editorial board for a medical publication and wrote editorial pieces. I have submitted a four part series of articles for publication in that same journal.

I wrote and taught a Bible study that my church “published” on the copier.

I enjoy speaking, too.  I’ve written all my own stuff.

Most of all I have journaled for years. I have lots of unique observations and perspectives, cool experiences and agonies. I view life as an object lesson.

Now I really hope you are laughing with me.

She has a red pen and she’s not afraid to use it. She tries to teach me the “rules.” I have learned to put the period inside the quotation marks.

I pay her in pears – the good kind.

For me, it’s therapeutic. For you, I hope it’s encouragement. Encouraging others is my spiritual gift. My calling is to be transparent. You may learn from the successes of others, but more likely you can identify with their failures. I’ve got a book full of failures. I hope we can relate. It makes me feel a little exposed, but it’s worth it if I can make your journey through life a little better.

“For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you…and for all who have not seen me in person.  I want their hearts to be encouraged, and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery – Christ.  All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him”  Colossians 2:1-3  HCSB

It’s handcrafted by Agelio Batle and made entirely of graphite. It is exquisite and it really writes, although I’m saving it. A friend gave it to me since, “You are a writer.” See, I knew I was. If there is any doubt, ask my mom. She thinks I am fabulous.

Do you know your spiritual gift?

If not, go to my page “Spiritual gifts” for a description and see what resonates with you and your personality (it’s in the sidebar).  Nothing is more fulfilling.

I pray that the perception of your mind may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.  Ephesians 1:181-9  NIV

  1. You definitely have the gift of encouragement! I am so grateful that I found your blog, and I eagerly look forward to each entry! Thank you!

  2. You’re great at anything you do and I read and hang on every encouraging word. I’m very thankful
you decided to write a blog.

  3. God has gifted you in so many ways. You are an encourager, a teacher and a gifted writer. You use humor with honesty to make your points take root. You are planting GOD’S WORD. One day you will see the harvest from your labors. Keep writing!

  4. Yep, I checked with your mom! lol! She says you are a writer and I believe her! I really like the part about you being an encourager for us to rely on Christ and what He has done for us. You remind us to look up! I hope you have a great day!

  5. You know, I had never thought about writing to be an encouragement. Its my spiritual gift too and I think I use it like that, but never really reasoned that way. You are a gifted writer. If you “own and operate” a blog not only are you a brand manager, but I think you are a published author. It takes a lot of gumption to hit “publish” every time. So glad to be following!

  6. I really miss you as my doctor……But I have to say I think your “new position” as physician for the soul suits you! God Bless you-you “writer.” Thanks for your words of encouragement.

  7. First of all you are a WRITER!! I love to hear about your experiences. You have some way of drawing your reader in for the next nugget. I am encouraged by yoir transparency!!! I hope you remember me….keep up the good work!

  8. My spiritual gifts are giving, serving and teaching. My blog helps me do that.

As a college student, I went through a “quiz” (a checklist) to help me determine what my gifts were. It really just affirmed what people in my life already saw in me, and then I realized for myself that it was accurate. It was very helpful to think it through on paper like that.

There used to be one on Charles Stanley’s website, but last time I looked I couldn’t find it. He did a series on spiritual gifts several years ago. Here’s the best I could come up with: http://www.intouch.org/read/discovering-your-spiritual-gifts

    Thanks for another great post!
